DELIVERING ULTIMATE DIESEL GENERATORS
GREAT PARTNERSHIPS AND FORWARD-THINKING DELIVER END-TO-END CONFIDENCE IN OUR LOGISTICS
Hinkley Point C (HPC) will make a significant contribution to the British net zero agenda, and we want to support that ambition with flexible, forward-thinking logistics. This means drawing on our long-term partnerships to handle incoming multi-origin assets and deliveries of key infrastructure to the HPC site.
As a Tier 1 contractor to HPC, our Shared Services operation collects, ships, and then transports out-of-gauge components across the site. This included Ultimate Diesel Generators (UDGs), which needed to be brought in from the Czech Republic. These were important assets, installed early on in the build cycle. They’re a major contributor to the new station’s own power infrastructure.
PARTNERING WITH SUB-CONTRACTORS
- We created an end-to-end plan that had us partnering with many sub-contractors, across five countries. This started with the UDG tanks being loaded onto our trailers in Kramolin, Czech Republic. We can work closely with on-site teams in any country. For us, a different language is not a barrier to health, safety, or security, and that’s something our clients depend on.
- Liaising with local specialist haulage partners, we transported the tanks by road to an inland river location at the Port of Bratislava, Slovakia. From those road-trailers, our plans ensured the tanks were lifted safely onto inland barges and transported downriver to Rotterdam.
- This way, we minimise disruption. Our plan saved more than 1,300 km worth of road transportation, removing these abnormal loads from a busy road network. In Rotterdam, the tanks were lifted back onto road trailers and then onto the ferry for shipping to the UK.
BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN SPECIALIST LOGISTICS
Some logistics need us to liaise with multiple sub-contractors, working in different countries, often in different languages. Building up relationships over a long period of time, we can offer more confidence to our clients. We know which contractors meet our standards and we know who’s well-prepared to handle challenges if they arise.
We specialise in handling critical infrastructure and mitigating risks around its transport. Every multimodal project is a challenge, but ingenuity, flexibility, and plenty of experience enable us to meet the programme’s objectives. Having the experience to work collaboratively through the logistics phase means we can mitigate the risk of possible delays.

“There were many challenges, such as scheduling around low water levels due to one of the driest winters in Europe. Great collaboration overcame them all.”Jan Coetsee, Project Manager at Osprey
