Osprey Graduate Programme Opens with Inspiring Speech by Joe Wardle
Osprey’s renowned Graduate Programme has officially launched with an inspiring keynote speech by Joe Wardle, Mechanical Engineer at Osprey, at Bristol University earlier this week. The event, held on Tuesday, 19th November 2024, marked the beginning of this year’s programme, drawing enthusiastic attendees eager to hear Joe’s reflections on his career and insights into the engineering industry.
With a career spanning global marine and nuclear engineering projects, Joe shared his professional journey, from hands-on roles with BP to leading innovative projects at Osprey. His address highlighted the challenges and rewards of an engineering career, and the critical role Osprey plays in supporting the next generation of engineers.
The Osprey Graduate Programme, a comprehensive two-year initiative, provides a structured pathway for graduates transitioning from academia to successful careers in engineering. During the event, Joe underscored the transformative impact of the programme, which includes foundational technical training, personal development workshops, and real-world project exposure.
Graduates participating in the programme will benefit from a tailored schedule of placements, workshops, and regular assessments to track progress and skill development. With access to dedicated mentors and managers, they receive extensive resources to foster professional growth and work toward achieving chartered status in their chosen fields.
The programme also equips graduates with vital skills in contract, project, and financial management, alongside training in quality, health, safety, and environmental standards. Through structured monitoring and support from Osprey’s experienced management teams, participants gain a clear roadmap for growth and success, preparing them for technical and leadership roles within the company and the broader engineering sector.
One of the programme’s standout participants, Will, embarked on his professional journey with Osprey in September 2023 after graduating from Dundee University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Over the past eight months, Will has immersed himself in engineering, contributing to a diverse array of projects. These include drafting plans for the shipment of subsea cables and managing the complex logistics of transporting a 2000-tonne basket from Norway to China. His work has taken him across the UK, from Scotland to Bristol, broadening his engineering expertise and enriching his understanding of different operations.
The launch of this year’s programme marks another step in Osprey’s dedication to building a strong foundation for emerging engineers, inspiring them to innovate and lead in their careers.
