Abnormal Loads
THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT FOR YOUR ASSETS
We believe Osprey is the UK’s foremost heavy lifting team, and our teams are ready to help plan and provide the most complex, fully-engineered heavy lifting and installation solutions. You can meet some of our Heavy Lifting team here.
From motorway bridges – lifted and installed as single components – to tunnel boring machines, wind turbines, locomotives and modular components of all sizes for any civil construction projects … we have the engineering, the complete range of owner-operated equipment and all the project planning expertise you need.
We also have one of the UK’s largest SPMT and heavy lift crane fleet, port services, and specialist partner transport at our disposal (and yours). Mobile cranes, lift system, jacks, skids – a full inventory of owner-operated lifting equipment. This access to the right kit makes every project possible while our way of working makes every project a success.

HEAVY-LIFT CRANES
We have our own fleet of telescopic mobile cranes and lattice-boom, truck-mounted cranes – some of the most capable units operating in the UK – and they can all be made available to support abnormal load movements. The fleet includes a telescopic LTM1800 (800te) and an LTM1800D (1,000te), and truck-mounted cranes including an LG1550 (550te) and an LG1750 (750te).
We can offer everything from standard CPA crane hire to fully engineered contract lift services supporting loadouts or specific project challenges … and we’re happy to provide detailed specs for these units, along with options for transporting them and using them on sites with challenging access.
SPMTS
Our fleet of 120 Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) provides an unlimited range of lifting options: different modules with multiple axle lines. The deck height can be adjusted hydraulically to lift and lower the load, and each SPMT can be fitted with its own engine and steering system.
We can connect our SPMT modules – side-by-side or end-to-end – or we can operate them in synchronised mini-fleets. With this flexibility, our team can deploy the right combination of SPMTs to lift and move virtually any heavy load.
SKATING SYSTEMS
Our in-house skating system is a connected series of skid-shoes that’s powered by hydraulic push-pull cylinders. Our engineers have the experience to make skates work in the most challenging circumstances, travelling slowly and safely over a pre-constructed track.
We can also incorporate turntables into the track layout for rotating loads as needed. Skate systems are often a go-to solution for complex installations, on unusual sites, or inside buildings that present a challenge, such as sub stations.
STRAND JACKS
A strand jack is a hollow hydraulic cylinder fitted with clamps at either end. A bundle of steel cables (or ‘strands’) can be guided through that cylinder, to exert consistent horizontal force on a large load – expanding and contracting the cylinder while the clamps are released and engaged.
Our engineers can deploy strand jacks for installations that are a significant height above ground level, but also in projects where a guided, horizontal pull is necessary as part of an installation.
HEAVY HAULAGE
Our relationship with Allelys Heavy Haulage Ltd. lets us offer the widest range of end-to-end specialist logistics.
We’ve been working together for years, and can often combine our services in a single contract – making project management easier from the outset. The fleet includes semi-lowloaders (3 or 5-axle units, with trombone trailers), beam trailers, wafer decks, vessel deck trailers, girder frame trainers (500t, 400t and 200t), and multi-axle hydraulic trailer systems.
